Atienza is the end and start of a stage on the Ruta de la Lana of the Way of St. James.
The route
The village closes stage 20, Mandayona – Sigüenza – Atienza, and opens stage 21, Atienza – Retortillo de Soria. Stage 20 has two variants —via Sigüenza and Palazuelos (48.470 km) or via villages such as Huérmeces del Cerro (35.740 km)— which join at Riofrío del Llano before reaching Atienza.
Stage 21, to Retortillo de Soria, totals 21.960 km, mostly along rural paths with minimal road within the Atienza municipal area. Waymarking uses distinctive marks. Pilgrims may stay in a municipal dwelling, requesting it at the Town Hall or the Tourism Office during opening hours.
