The Way of El Cid

Atienza appears twice in the Song of the Cid, described as “a mighty crag”.

The route

The Cantar's mention indicates that Atienza was under Muslim control and defended enough for El Cid to avoid a direct confrontation. Today the village is the end point of route 1, “The Exile”, and the start of route 2, “Frontier Lands”.

The Way of El Cid can be travelled on foot, by mountain bike or by motor vehicle. The Way's salvoconducto can be stamped at the Town Hall, Monday to Thursday, and at the Tourism Office, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

Stamp point

Salvoconducto stamping: Town Hall (Monday to Thursday) and Tourism Office (Saturdays, Sundays and holidays).
