Climb to the castle of Atienza
The shortest and most photogenic walk: 15 cobbled minutes from Santa María del Rey to the keep.
The route
The path starts near the church of Santa María del Rey, at the foot of the crag, and rises in cobbled zigzags to the castle precinct. Standard climb: about 800 metres with 80 metres of elevation, manageable in 15-20 minutes at a calm pace.
Once at the top, set aside at least half an hour to walk the keep, the cisterns carved into the rock and the inner wall remains.
